Great old world machinery. Very rugged and durable. I replaced the gearing with stepper motors so I could wind finer wire. I probably have the most capable and reliable coil winder there is! Couldn’t babe done it without a good head start using the US Solid machine. One problem was that the carriage shaft had been bent, probably in shipping. It’s fairly malleable and I was able to get it back to fairly straight. Flexible motor couplings make up for the rest.

The overall machine is great but it has a few flaws. First the holder for the feed spool won’t fit standard spools. You have to wined to another spool that fits or notch out the casting. The material used for the counter dials is so thin it is more like foil than sheet metal and bends with the slightest touch. It winds a decent coil automatically but if you want a perfect one it needs constant attention. We will see how durable it is over time.
