Normally closed solenoid valves are closed unless energized. Once energized, they immediately open, and stay open for as long as energy is applied. Because of how they open, these valves are not intended for long term, continuous energization. They are a great choice for tasks where immediate opening and closing, for relatively short periods of time, is a necessity.
